An exciting change at Haigh Architects
Roger Haigh has run the Practice for more than 20 years, initially with Michael Bottomley. Since 2007, Nicola Foot, has supported him as the senior architect. Roger has decided to step back from his role as Principal, and has passed the day-to-day control of the Practice to Nicola. She will take responsibility for the projects, the office and the staff, from November 2018. Roger is now a Consultant and will continue to work with his current clients on a part time basis, and will support the Practice as it evolves, as he works towards retirement.

'Bats' in the roof?
Partnerships in protecting our natural heritage
UK & EU law has become much more stringent in recent years to protect our declining bat populations. We have 16 species in the UK that depend upon seasonal roosts in trees, walls, roofs, even underground sites as well as a wide range of feeding & commuting habitats.
We advise our clients early on that these regulations can have time and cost implications for a project. Haigh Architects regularly work closely with experts in the field who assist us to support & guide our clients through the regulations & Planning process, minimising the impact both to the project, as well as the wildlife & biodiversity in our wonderful corner of England.
'Buildings that Breathe'
Complete refurbishment in the Eden Valley
Many challenges are faced when inappropriate past "improvements" such as cement renders and tanking are applied to buildings originally designed to breathe.
This is a particular area of interest for us at Haigh Architects. Understanding the way that traditional vernacular buildings behave is key to their future use and preservation.
In this Eden valley farm house, comfortable, adaptable and thermally efficient living spaces were created by converting additional space and using natural building technologies. Current research and advice from SPAB.
Refurbishment & improvements
Holiday let in Grasmere
Swallows Cottage is a delightful holiday let with wonderful views of the surrounding hills.

Works were completed in 2012 and this 2 bedroomed property is now in great demand. Available to let through the Lakelover's website.
